Beattie helped keep Arsenal's 100% winning record in their two WSL games

Scotland striker Jennifer Beattie hit a late goal to give Arsenal a hard-fought 1-0 Women's Super League (WSL) win against Bristol Academy.

The result took Arsenal level on points with leaders Birmingham City - the only teams with 100% records after each of the eight sides' first two matches.

Lincoln collected their first point of the season in a 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

Carla Cantrell headed Lincoln in front before Sophie Perry's levelled - also with a header - just after half-time.

Arsenal 1-0 Bristol Academy

Arsenal suffered an early blow when captain Faye White had to be substituted because of an injury sustained after only 19 minutes of a physical game.

The home side had the majority of the possession and almost took a first-half lead when England midfielder Katie Chapman hit the crossbar.

But in front of a crowd of 655 it was not until seven minutes from time for the Gunners to claim their narrow victory.

The winner was worth the wait for the fans, however, Beattie firing home a spectacular 25-yard drive to claim the three points.

Chelsea 1-1 Lincoln

After Chelsea's bumper crowd of 2,510 for the WSL's opening-day fixture against Arsenal there were only 273 in attendance to watch the Blues take on Lincoln.

Striker Cantrell headed the visitors in front after a 35th-minute throw-in by Sophie Bradley had been helped on into the danger area.

The home side drew level when Perry headed home Claire Rafferty's 48th-minute corner.

Chelsea had the better of the second half but almost lost the game late on when midfielder Dani Buet headed against her own bar as she tried to clear a free-kick by England winger Sue Smith.
