Smith scored a brace but was later sent off for Arsenal
Arsenal striker Kelly Smith scored twice but then got sent off as the Women's Premier League leaders won 6-1 at Leeds Carnegie.
Everton beat Watford 3-1 to maintain their 100% record and stay level on points with the Gunners.
But third placed Chelsea dropped points at Birmingham drawing 3-3.
Both of the bottom clubs were beaten, Fulham 7-0 at Doncaster Belles and Liverpool 6-0 at Bristol Academy, whose striker Stef Curtis hit four goals.
Leeds Carnegie 1-6 Arsenal
Smith gave the Gunners a great start with two goals in the first five minutes.
Jade Moore's seventh minute strike brought the home side back into the game, but 11 minutes later England winger Karen Carney restored Arsenal's two-goal advantage.
Smith saw red along with Carnegie's Alex Culvin when the pair squared up to each other following Culvin's 22nd-minute challenge on the England striker.
Gemma Davison stretched Arsenal's lead five minutes before the break, then Carney put the result beyond doubt with a 47th minute penalty.
England midfielder Katie Chapman completed the scoring 15 minutes from time.
Everton 3-1 Watford
Two late goals wrapped up victory after Everton had been given a tough time by hard working opponents.
The Toffees led at the break through England midfielder Jill Scott, but after Helen Lander's equaliser early in the second half the Hornets got on top.
A disputed second Everton goal, credited to Natasha Dowie, edged the home side back in front in the 75th minute.
And two minutes later England's Fara Williams pounced to hit the victory clincher.
Chelsea 3-3 Birmingham City
Determined Birmingham picked up an unexpected point with a battling performance.
They were two goals down in 15 minutes through potent strike partners Eni Aluko and Lianne Sanderson.
And though Maz Gauntlett reduced the arrears, Danielle Buet put the home side back in control with a goal on the stroke of half time.
But Birmingham hit back again, Heather Scheuber scoring on the hour and Keely Lowe grabbing the equaliser 15 minutes from time.
Doncaster Rovers Belles 7-0 Fulham
Four goals first half goals put the Belles right in control and Fulham never looked likely to find a way back.
Precious Hamilton, Liz Hansen and Rachel Williams hit two goals apiece and there was also one for captain Vicky Exley as Donny moved to within a point of Chelsea.
Bristol Academy 6-0 Liverpool
Bristol jumped two places to fifth with a convincing win against the bottom team.
Goals by Curtis and Gwennan Harries gave the home side a 2-0 half time lead.
And a further three from Curtis, plus one by Kerry Bartlett, ensured that Fulham would stay second bottom.
Nottingham Forest 0-1 Blackburn Rovers
Like Liverpool and Fulham, Forest are pointless after four matches.
They gave as good as they got in a close contest, but a 26th minute goal by Natalie Preston brought Blackburn their first win of the season.
