Sunderland got their season off to a winning start

Sunderland Women began their season in style with a confident 3-0 win away at newly promoted Reading on Sunday.

Goals from skipper Steph Bannon, debutant Kelly McDougall and Sophie Williams were enough to start the season in style.

Manager Mick Mulhern said he was very happy with their performance: "It was a great result against a physical Reading side who were unbeaten in pre-season."

Meanwhile Sunderland have six players joining up with England's youth squads.

Helen Alderson and Rachael Laws have both been selected for the U19/20's training camp while Lucy Bronze, Demi Stokes, Lucy Staniforth and Jordan Nobbs have all been selected in the U17's training camp.
