Lincoln City Ladies are top of the FA women's premier league northern division with one game left after a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Jodie Snelson netted a hat-trick and Stacey Aisthorpe also scored to move the Lady Imps ahead of title rivals Nottingham Forest on goal difference.

Manager Rod Wilson said: "It's a very exciting finish. It can't be any closer and there may be some twists yet.

"We didn't play a lot of football but we were by far the better team."

Lincoln play their final game of the season on Sunday, away at third-placed Sunderland.

Although Nottingham Forest have scored more goals, the Lady Imps' goal difference is now superior by one goal.

If they match Forest's result at home to Sheffield Wednesday on the same day, they will be crowned northern division champions and gain promotion to the national division.
