Arsenal hit four past Kazakh side
By Tony Leighton

Karen Carney scored twice as Arsenal began their defence of the Uefa Women's Cup with a 4-0 second-round tournament win against Alma KTZH.

Arsenal scored all four of their goals in the first-half, with England winger Carney scoring their first two goals.

Everton lost 2-1 to Rapide Wezemaal in their opening match in Belgium.

Back in England, there were Premier League wins for Leeds, who beat Doncaster Belles 3-1, and Watford, who thumped Charlton Athletic 6-0.

The Gunners are hosting their four-team second round tournament as they bid to qualify for the quarter-finals.

And the Gunners began their campaign in style with a convincing win against opposition from Kazakhstan at Borehamwood.

Carney headed them in front after 21 minutes and then doubled her tally with a 15-yard drive five minutes later.

Midfielder Katie Chapman added goal number three with a close-range shot from winger Rachel Yankey's 33rd-minute cross.

Striker Lianne Sanderson wrapped up victory with a low shot from a Carney pass in the last minute of the first half.

Carney almost grabbed a hat-trick goal when her 69th minute long range effort thudded against the crossbar.

Rapide Wezemaal 2-1 Everton

Michelle Evans gave Everton the lead just after half-time, but the home side equalised midway through the second half and then grabbed the winner with the last kick of the match.

Women's Premier League

Charlton 0-6 Watford

Charlton suffered their second heavy defeat in four days as Watford strengthened their position in the top three.

The game was effectively won by half-time as the Hornets led 4-0, Hayley Kemp and an own goal adding to a double strike from Emma Beckett.

Former Charlton striker Ashlee Hincks twisted the knife when she hit the fifth goal on the hour, and the scoring was completed by Helen Lander.

Leeds United 3-1 Doncaster Rovers Belles

Leeds United, the last club to start the League season following the Women's World Cup, kicked off their campaign with a welcome Yorkshire derby victory.

An early own goal and a Katie Holtham strike put Leeds in the driving seat, but Donny reduced the arrears through Sophie Hopper.

Seconds before half-time, however, England winger Sue Smith hit restored Leeds' two-goal lead.
