Powell's side showed some promising sign in China |
England coach Hope Powell was left ruing her side's failure in attack after they were knocked out of the Women's World Cup by the United States. England lost 3-0 in the quarter-final against the two-time former winners of the tournament.
"We have to respect that America are very clinical in front of goal but we certainly matched them and we played some attractive football," said Powell.
"In the end we didn't show enough composure in front of goal."
England matched their best showing at their only other World Cup outing in 1995 but struggled as the US marked star player Kelly Smith out of the game.
They were level at half-time but conceded three goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half and, despite creating some promising openings, were constantly thwarted by the strong US defence.
"We did get at them at certain times but those minutes were crucial," added Powell.
"There were some goalkeeping errors that were costly but we truly believed we could come here and do a job."
