Scott expects Gunners' Uefa win
by Tony Leighton

Football
Arsenal goal hero Alex Scott is confident that on Sunday the Gunners will become the first British club to lift the Uefa Women's Cup.

Scott's last minute strike gave her team a vital 1-0 away victory over Swedish champions Ume IK in last Saturday's first leg of the final.

Three days later a 5-1 win at Chelsea confirmed Arsenal as Premier League champions for the sixth time in seven seasons.

So, says England full back Scott, morale amongst the Gunners squad is sky high as they approach Sunday's second leg of their Euro final at Borehamwood FC.

"It's been a brilliant week so far for us," she said, "and we all feel that we can finish the job on Sunday.

"But we know it's going to be just as tough as last week and there's no way that complacency will affect us.

"We produced a really gritty performance on Saturday and to get my goal in the last minute capped off a great day for the team.

"It was the most important goal of my career and it's set us up for the most important game in the club's history."

In what is their 20th anniversary season the Gunners could achieve an unprecedented quadruple title triumph.

Having already won the League and the League Cup, victory on Sunday would leave them with May 7's FA Cup final to complete a four-star season.

But first they must overcome Ume, who after winning the Uefa Cup twice in the last four years were hot favourites to beat first-time finalists Arsenal.

Scott said: "The big games are certainly coming thick and fast at the moment, but we are up for the challenge.

"It would be fantastic to celebrate the clubs 20th anniversary with four trophies, but all we're thinking about right now is the match Sunday."

Ume are likewise totally focused on the second leg after winning their third successive Swedish League match in midweek.

Striker Hanna Ljungberg, the Uefa Cup's all-time leading scorer, said: "We're a goal down but it's only half-time and we have plenty of opportunity to change this.

"Arsenal are a really good team though, and we have to shape up a little bit if we want to win this final."
