Gunners edge closer to title win
By Tony Leighton

Scotland international Fleeting was in devastating form for Arsenal
Julie Fleeting struck four goals as Arsenal hammered Doncaster Belles 7-0 to move within two points of retaining the Women's Premier League title.

Charlton Athletic's hopes of finishing in the runners-up spot were hit by a surprise 2-0 loss at Blackburn Rovers.

At the other end of the table, strugglers Sunderland earned a vital point with a goalless draw at Chelsea.

But rock-bottom Fulham slipped ever closer to relegation with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Birmingham City.

WOMEN'S PREMIER LEAGUE

Arsenal 7-0 Doncaster Rovers Belles

Fleeting's quadruple strike took her season's tally to 28 in all competitions and helped the Gunners pass the 100 goals mark in the League alone.

England winger Karen Carney, striker Lianne Sanderson - with her 35th goal of the campaign - and Wales midfielder Jayne Ludlow were the other scorers.

Blackburn Rovers 2-0 Charlton Athletic

Striker Andi Bell scored twice to give Rovers a victory that left Charlton third in the table and three points behind Everton, who are now favourites to finish runners-up to Arsenal.

Bell broke clear of the defence to open the scoring in the 10th minute.

And in the first minute of the second half the striker's cross was fumbled by goalkeeper Toni-Ann Wayne into the net.

Charlton hit back strongly but both Ann-Marie Heatherson and Ashlee Hincks unluckily struck the woodwork.

Chelsea 0-0 Sunderland

A dour goalless draw boosted Sunderland's survival hopes but also helped Chelsea, whose point helped them to jump two places to fourth in the table.

Fulham 0-3 Birmingham City

Fulham's 18th defeat in 19 matches left them facing almost certain relegation - only one more defeat will confirm their fate.

But victory for Blues meant they are now mathematically certain to avoid the drop.

Early goals by Maz Gauntlett and Amy McCann put the visitors on the road to a victory that was wrapped up in the last minute by Keeley Lowe.
