Group C: Japan 6-0 Argentina
Mio Otani scored the first hat-trick of the Fifa Women's World Cup, her three goals in eight minutes helping Japan to thrash Argentina.
Homare Sawa opened the scoring with her 50th international goal, lashing a low shot home in the 13th minute.
She volleyed home a second from Emi Yamamoto's cross seven minutes before half-time.
Argentina's hopes all but disappeared a minute before the break when Natalia Gatti was sent off for a foul on Tomoe Sakai.
Emi Yamamoto added a third in the 64th minute before Otani opened her account in the 72nd minute, scoring again three minutes later.
She clinched her hat-trick in the 80th minute with a diving header.
Group C: Germany 4-1 Canada
Germany suffered an early setback but came from behind to beat Canada.
Christine Sinclair put the Canadians ahead after just four minutes, heading home from Kristina Kiss' free-kick.
Bettina Wiegmann put Germany level from the penalty spot six minutes before half-time and just after the interval they went ahead through Stefanie Gottschlich.
Birgit Prinz headed home a third on 75 minutes and Kerstin Garefrekes added a fourth from the edge of the box in injury time.
Group B: Norway 2-0 France
Dagny Mellgren scored the key goal to give Norway victory over France in the opening match of the tournament.
Norwegian captain Mellgren gave Norway a 2-0 lead in the 66th minute after the French had pressing for an equaliser.
Anita Rapp opened the scoring in the 47th minute, taking a perfect crossing pass from defender Brit Sandaune and nodding the ball past Marty.
French forward Marinette Pichon went close with a bicycle kick and was denied from point-blank range by keeper Bente Nordby before Mellgren's goal gave Norway some much-needed insurance.
About 10,000 fans greeted the teams at the new 70,000-seat home field of American football's Philadelphia Eagles.
Group A: Nigeria 0-3 North Korea
Jin Pyol Hui scored in the 13th and 88th minutes as North Korea recorded a comfortable win.
Ri Un Gyong was also on target, beating Super Falcons goalkeeper Precious Ded, in the 73rd minute.
