Martin Foyle was impressed with Adam Smith's performance against Ebbsfleet
York City manager Martin Foyle wants to keep hold of on-loan forward Adam Smith beyond December.
The 23-year-old signed from Gainsborough Trinity on a one month deal at the end of November.
Foyle told BBC Radio York: "I've spoken to Adam but I've got to make sure it's alright with Gainsborough, he's a contracted player with them so I need to speak to them. He's done well."
Smith scored his first goal for York in the 3-1 win over Ebbsfleet on Saturday.
Foyle worked with Smith at Wrexham and he said the player had showed a lot of promise.
We'll have to see what goes on but I'm very keen on making it permanent
York City's Adam Smith
"We got him to Wrexham when I was there and unfortunately he had a bit of a hamstring injury so he couldn't show what he wanted to.
"But the glimpses that we saw were enough for me to take a little bit of a gamble and as you can see, pace does cause people problems."
Smith said he was also keen to stay at Kitkat Crescent.
"We'll have to see what happens and I'll have to speak to the gaffer and the assistant about my future.
"Everything's going well so far and I get on with the lads great and it's a great club to be at.
"We'll have to see what goes on but I'm very keen on making it permanent."
