York midfielder remains positive

Elliott wants City to finish the season on a high

York City midfielder Stuart Elliot said there were plenty of positives to take out of their 3-2 defeat at Stevenage on Tuesday night.

After two defeats Elliot believes his side can still move up the Blue Square Premier table.

He told BBC Radio York: "There are lot of positives to come out of that game, more positives than negatives.

"If we can get consistent levels and do that week in week out we can be right up there."

30-year-old Elliot has been criticised this season by supporters but he remains unfazed.

He added: "People can have their own opinion, I'm not really that bothered about it.

"I know when I've played well and when I've played poorly and so does the manager.

"I've been in football long enough to know you get a pat on the back one minute and a kick up the bum the next so I'm not really bothered about that, I just want to keep working."

Every player I know and have ever played with has got personal pride and is a professional

With seven games left this season, York have nothing left to play for as their play-off chances have ended.

But Elliot agrees with manager Colin Walker that they can not let the season turn in to what he calls a 'non-event'.

"There's people travelling down from Yorkshire to [Stevenage in] Hertfordshire," he said.

"There's no way we're going to disrespect them and let the season peter out and not give 110%.

"Every footballer has personal pride and I don't know any player that would just go though the motions.

"Sometimes it might look like that and sometimes people have got their opinions on players.

"But every player I know and have ever played with has got personal pride and is a professional, they work as hard as they can and that's exactly the case for us."
