York City manager Colin Walker apologised for his team's 'shocking' performance in their 1-1 draw with Northwich Victoria on Tuesday.
The result all but ends the club's ambitions of making the Blue Square Premier play-offs.
Walker told BBC Radio York: "I would have still been saying the same thing even if we'd won 1-0.
"They've let themselves down, the staff down and the club down. They've certainly let the supporters down."
Walker added: "I've asked for the punters to keep coming and that was absolutely dreadful. I can't believe we got a draw.
"I'm really disappointed for the public. Those that watched on TV must have turned it off. We were shocking."
They've got to stand up and be counted and we're going to have a right go. We can't just let this season peter into nothing

The only positive for Walker was the performance of striker Richard Brodie.
"I thought Richard was outstanding, but I don't know how but we haven't got beat.
"We're just going to have to role our sleeves up. We've got another big game on Saturday and we've got to do better."
City are 15 points off the play-offs with nine games remaining but Walker says he still wants a strong end to the season from his players.
"I'm going to do something about it. I can do something about it. If I could have ran on the pitch I would have done, but I can't.
"I did get criticism and I deserved every little bit of it. So do the players. They've got to stand up and be counted and we're going to have a right go. We can't just let this season peter into nothing."
