![]() | Tuesday, 8 January, 2002, 12:15 GMT Supporters' Trust for York York City fans are to set up a Supporters' Trust in a move to try and safeguard the club's future. The Third Division side has been put up for sale by chairman Douglas Craig, who plans to shut City down at the end of the season due to rising debts if no buyer is found. He has set a deadline of January 17 for interested parties to show their hand. But on Monday supporters voted unanimously at a public meeting in the city to form a Supporters' Trust as one possible way of keeping the club going. Similar bodies have been formed in the past at Northampton and Chesterfield. A steering committee will now formulate a business plan to show how the Trust could operate the club. City's ground, which is owned by Craig's company Bootham Crescent Holdings is not for sale as part of the package and the new owners would have to lease it. | Other top York City stories: Links to more York City stories are at the foot of the page. | ||
