McIndoe helped Yeovil to promotion last season |
Yeovil Town have been rocked by the news that Michael McIndoe has handed in a transfer request. The 23-year-old midfielder played a major part in getting the Glovers promoted to the Football League, scoring some crucial goals during last season.
But he has decided that playing for Yeovil is below his preferred standard and wants to move up a division.
A Yeovil statement read: "Unfortunately Michael McIndoe no longer wants to play at Yeovil Town Football Club.
"He believes it is time to move onto a higher standard. He is of the opinion that YTFC's current status is below his ability and thinks he should be playing First Division football.
"This is a very difficult and disappointing situation for the club but Michael and his advisors have decided now is the time to move on.
"He has been a good player and a good servant to the club but he has taken advice from outside the club and made his intentions clear.
"Michael had a good season but has been expressing his desire to leave the club for some time.
"We have tried to change his views but he is quite adamant about a move. We have reluctantly placed Michael on the transfer list and a fee will be required."
It is understood that McIndoe has been receiving advice from outside the club as to where his true potential lies.
Yeovil manager Gary Johnson added: "I'm really gutted that the situation has come to this.
"Sometimes people seem to trust outsiders more than they trust insiders which is really disappointing.
"As a club we have done everything for him and had two great seasons together and you would have expected him to follow that through in Division Three but he has decided he wants to further his career at another club.
"We are in the midst of all our pre-season preparations and I want to be able to focus my mind onto the other twenty very very good professionals at this club."
