Sinclair had a disastrous final few minutes at AFC Wimbledon

Wrexham manager Dean Saunders says Frank Sinclair will be punished for his red card in the 2-2 AFC Wimbledon draw.

The veteran defender, 38, was sent off for an injury-time clash with Danny Kedwell, part of a calamitous final few minutes for the former Chelsea man.

With Wrexham leading 1-0 he hit a 90th-minute own goal, Andy Mangan restoring the advantage before Sinclair's red led to an equalising penalty for the Dons.

"If they get sent off for retaliation they get fined, simple," said Saunders.

"I don't know what's happened in the box… apparently the lad's thrown a punch at Frank, he's retaliated and been sent off.

"I've got to be able to rely on the experienced players."

The red card is Sinclair's second in March, following a dismissal for a tackle against Altrincham that left Tom Kearney with a double break of the leg.

He now faces a five-game ban, Saunders acknowledging that it will be "the end" of Sinclair's season.

Sinclair, who won the FA and League Cups during his eight years at Chelsea, dropped into the non-league and signed for Wrexham on a free transfer after being released by Lincoln City at the end of last season.

He was not the only player to earn Saunders' ire after the Wimbledon capitulation.

"I've never seen anything like it, you couldn't write what's happening to us at the moment," Saunders told BBC Sport Wales.

"There's 10 seconds left on the clock, Curtis [Obeng] can do anything but what he's done.

"He's only got to clear it and he turns and gives it to the keeper, they win a corner and get the penalty."

Saunders also described a first-half penalty conceded by Christian Smith as "ridiculous".
