Wrexham fixture backlog frustrates boss Dean Saunders
Former Wales striker Dean Saunders is in his first job as a manager
Dean Saunders is concerned by Wrexham's fixture backlog as the Racecourse club face their longest period without a game for more than 30 years.
The Blue Square Premier club will have not played for almost a month should Dean Saunders' side play Gateshead in their rescheduled match next Tuesday.
But Wrexham could suffer their sixth successive postponement at Gateshead.
"It seems such a long time ago when we played York," said boss Saunders. "But we must be professional."
Wrexham's 1-0 FA Trophy victory over Altrincham on 15 December was their last outing but the Dragons' last league fixture was a 2-1 defeat at York City on 5 December.
The Racecourse club have had games against Mansfield, Gateshead, AFC Wimbledon and Altrincham, both home and away, called off due to the freezing weather.
The Mansfield game has been rearranged to 2 February while their trip to Gateshead is now on 12 January - although that game is in danger of being moved if Gateshead's FA Trophy fixture with Chippenham Town on Saturday is frozen off.
As Gateshead will reschedule their FA Trophy tie for next Tuesday so Wrexham could suffer further postponement disappointment.
Both of Wrexham's games with Altrincham and their trip to AFC Wimbledon, which was postponed on Tuesday, have yet to be rescheduled into their congested fixture list.
"I'm becoming quite depressed about not having a game," said Saunders. "Now I'm trying to keep up my own spirits, never mind those of the players.
"Mentally we've being getting the players prepared every time but there is no release for them at the end of the week after training."
"That is the frustrating thing. But we have to be professional about it."
