Jansen worked under Saunders who was assistant at Blackburn
Matt Jansen will this week tell manager Dean Saunders if he is to sign a new Wrexham contract.
The 31-year-old former Premier League star scored once in three Wrexham games during a pay-as-you-play spell before a knee injury ended his season.
Injury-prone Jansen needs a knee operation this summer and is considering his football future.
"I've had so many comebacks there is part of me that doesn't want to shut that door on playing," said Jansen.
Jansen was a £4.1m signing for Blackburn Rovers from Crystal Palace in 1999 and his impressive displays for the Ewood Park team earned him a call-up to the England squad for their friendly with Paraguay in 2002.
But he withdrew with a stomach illness and the man that once turned down a move to Manchester United narrowly missed out on a call to England's World Cup squad for the 2002 tournament in Japan and South Korea.
A motorcycle accident in Rome in the summer of 2002 proved to be a pivotal moment in his promising career, where Jansen spent six days in a coma, as the former England under-21 international has struggled to maintain a consistent injury-free spell.
Jansen eventually left Blackburn in 2006 for Bolton Wanderers but was released after making just six appearances in six months at the Reebok Stadium.
Saunders, who coached Jansen during his time as Graeme Souness' assistant during Souness' four years in charge at Blackburn, handed Jansen's football career a lifeline in March this year when he offered him a short-term deal at the Racecourse.
Jansen, who conceded a lack of match-fitness, scored in his second game back after two-and-a-half years out of football but a knee injury curtailed his comeback.
Saunders is currently rebuilding his Wrexham squad and has released a host of players but has offered Jansen a new deal.
But the Carlisle-born player admits: "Everybody other than me thinks I can do a job, it's a case of convincing myself and getting my confidence levels back.
"If I stopped playing football, I'd like to do some coaching or do media work."
