Williams began Wrexham's fightback

Francis Murphy gave Cliftonville the lead before the break, firing a rising shot in with the defence frozen.

Eifion Williams levelled after the break, keeper John Connolly parrying the striker's initial shot back into the path of the summer signing.

A quick Ryan Valentine free kick freed Neil Roberts on 79 minutes, the Wrexham captain side-footing in the winner.

"I thought it was a really good game and an excellent workout for us," said Wrexham manager Brian Carey.

"We were in control for most of the match and we created quite a few goal-scoring opportunities, particularly in the opening stages.

"But Cliftonville have had a few games in European competition already this season and it showed in their play.

"I thought they deserved credit for the way they played, but there were quite a few outstanding performances in my team as well.

"We were caught out a bit by their goal because it was clearly our throw, but it was given the other way.

"But for most of the second half the game was played in the Cliftonville half of the field and, although the conditions were not the best, I felt we came through with flying colours."
