Wrexham boss Denis Smith likes the look of Johnson |
Wrexham boss Denis Smith fears the club will not be able to afford to sign trialist Josh Johnson. Trinidad wing Johnson has impressed in two pre-season games and Smith hopes to take him to Northern Ireland to face Dungannon Swifts and Cliftonville.
Smith said: "I don't like repeating myself, but money is tight and I will have to do some careful juggling if we were to look at bringing him in.
"He still has plenty to learn, but he has certainly done well so far."
The form of ex-Wrexham player Carlos Edwards kept Johnson, 24, out of the Soca Warriors' World Cup squad, but he is seen as Edwards' heir apparent.
Johnson top-scored last season for the San Juan Jabloteh club that produced another former Dragon, Hector Sam.
The Trinidadian youngster joins fellow trialists Kyle Wilson, Jon Newby and Mitch Booth at Wrexham.
Released Crewe striker Wilson, ex-Bury frontman Newby and Booth, a Wales Under-19 midfielder from Derby's academy, are also trying to impress Smith.
Neil Roberts, Ryan Valentine, Chris Llewellyn and Steve Evans have already been added to the Wrexham roster.
Wrexham play Dungannon on Saturday, 22 July and Cliftonville in Newcastle on the following Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Wrexham have unveiled new shirt sponsor for next season.
North Wales-based firm Leasedirect Finance Ltd have signed an initial one year deal, with an option for a second.
