Smith is hopeful Wrexham will soon be out of administration

Administrators running the club can now open negotiations with prospective buyers to save the League Two club.

"I'm absolutely delighted with the result of the court case," said Smith.

"It was widely expected, but the fact that it has come through so strongly lightens the way. Now we've got somewhere to go and plenty of hope."

The Football League has set a 3 June deadline for Wrexham to find new buyers and come out of administration or else risk expulsion.

Following Tuesday's Court of Appeal judgement that the Racecourse Ground should not revert to Alex Hamilton's hands, the administrators said there are a "handful" of offers to buy Wrexham already on the table.

Smith said the uncertainty over Wrexham future's had been a huge burden on the players' shoulders this season, but he is confident the club will soon be sold to someone with its best interests at heart.

"It's been a very difficult time," Smith told BBC Wales Sport. "When we're in training and when the lads are playing, they don't think about it.

"It's when they go home to their partners they start to question whether they'll have a job at the end of the season.

"Hopefully this court case is the first step towards being able to give them positive answers.

"We know now the club is going to be here. How it's going to be settled, we don't yet know.

"But at least now the players know there is an opportunity for them here.

"So we want the right people in, pushing the club in the right direction, and that doesn't mean they have to spend mega money.

"But it has to be set up so that this situation doesn't arise again, and we have to make sure everyone is involved in building a solid base for the club to grow on."

Wrexham have been in administration since December 2004 after incurring debts of �4m.

Under Football League rules, clubs are prevented from starting two consecutive season while in administration.
