Derbyshire played once for Blackburn's first team last season

Striker Derbyshire, 19, has joined the League Two side on a month's loan from Blackburn, after spending most of the season with Championship side Plymouth.

He said: "The gaffer felt it would be good for me to get some games under my belt.

"He had a lot of positive things to say about Wrexham."

Wrexham targeted Derbyshire after they ended Juan Ugarte's loan deal from Crewe because of the striker's knee injury.

Derbyshire played 13 games on loan at Plymouth earlier this season, but failed to find the net.

He returned to Blackburn in January, and scored for the reserve side in his second game back in a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa reserves on Monday.

Said Wrexham manager Denis Smith: "He's a player I've watched for some time. I even tried to sign him in the summer.

"He has plenty of pace and an eye for goal."

Meanwhile, Dragons striker Jon Walters will have surgery on his fractured cheekbone on Thursday which keep him out for up to a month.
