Williams could be the answer to Wrexham's scoring problems |
Wrexham have signed Sam Williams on a month's loan from Aston Villa. The 18-year-old striker, converted from a centre back, has scored eight goals for Villa reserves this season but has not broken into the first-team squad.
The Dragons expect his registration to be completed in time for Saturday's home game with Leyton Orient.
"He will be joining us for a month, and if he does well we can extend the deal for a further two months," said Wrexham manager Denis Smith.
"The people at Villa speak highly of Sam and I'm hoping he will come and make an impression."
Wrexham have long been searching for a target man, and at 6ft-plus Williams fits the bill perfectly.
He is currently in a rich vein of form, having scored twice in recent games against both Wigan and Everton.
Meanwhile, Wrexham youth team striker Jamie Reed has signed for Northern Ireland side Glentoran on loan until the end of the season.
Reed has made two substitute appearances for the Dragons this season coming on against both Wycombe and Boston.
