Wrexham's Dennis Lawrence spoke of his joy after his goal fired Trinidad & Tobago to their first ever World Cup. The defender's 49th-minute header was enough to beat Bahrain and looks set to make him the first serving Wrexham player to appear in the World Cup.
"We were disappointed after the 1-1 home draw in the first leg," he said.
"But we just decided to work hard as this was our last chance at something that could change our entire lives. I couldn't believe that I got the goal!"
Lawrence said that the result had caused pandemonium back in the Caribbean.
"We're a small nation of around 1.5m people, and the win was for everyone," Lawrence told BBC Sport Wales.
"I've been getting phone calls from home and you can just hear the excitement in the background."
The 31-year-old thought his next challenge would be refocusing for Saturday's visit of Peterborough to Wrexham.
"I have to be professional, my day job is with Wrexham," he said.
"I've had texts off a lot of the boys to congratulate me, but I'm already starting to prepare my mind for Peterborough."
But Trinidadian Prime Minister Patrick Manning has called his team home to join in a carnival to celebrate the win, and Wrexham manager Denis Smith agreed to allow Lawrence to join the celebrations.
