Wolves captain Karl Henry attacks 'moaning' Arsenal

Karl Henry sent off against Arsenal
Henry's dismissal was the first of his career

Wolves captain Karl Henry has accused Arsenal players of "going down like a sack of spuds" after he was sent off during the sides' Saturday meeting.

Henry received a straight red card for his tackle on midfielder Tomas Rosicky as his side lost 1-0 at the Emirates.

"It was never a red card, it is an absolute disgrace. He is up and running around two minutes later," said the 28-year-old midfielder.

"Arsenal moan a lot and their players go down like a sack of spuds."

Henry added: "When they are rolling around getting people sent off, it makes you not want to see them do so well."

He is set to miss his team's matches against Stoke, Fulham and Blackburn through suspension although the club have until lunchtime on Tuesday to register an appeal against the dismissal.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger complained about Birmingham's physical approach in his side's previous Premier League match and Henry believes his players are too quick to follow suit on the pitch.

"I have gone in to win it, Rosicky has gone across me to shield the ball. By that time, I have already gone to ground," stated Henry.

"Thomas Vermaelen has come flying in and whoever else, trying to get me sent off.

"They get hit hard, like any other clubs do, and we are hearing about it for weeks and weeks."

Wenger admitted his players' protests may have gone too far, but believes that injuries to their colleagues explain their reaction.

Vermaelen was one of the Arsenal players who saw team-mate Aaron Ramsey break his leg in two places in a challenge with Stoke's Ryan Shawcross in February.

"They were surrounding the referee, but with what happened to us it is still a trauma in the team," said Wenger.

"We have to be careful, we do not want that, but the referee has to make the decisions."

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy believes referee Andre Marriner's 10th red card of the season was crucial in Arsenal securing a 94th-minute winner.

"If Arsenal had scored one of their many chances in the first half then I would have taken it on the chin," said McCarthy.

"But the way it has happened, when we were down to 10 men and were knackered, I don't see it like that."

The Irishman applauded his captain as he walked off the pitch - drawing jeers from the home support - but insisted he was not pleased to see Rosicky hurt.

"I felt bad for Karl, I ushered him off and congratulated him on his performance," added McCarthy.

"The fans may have thought I was congratulating him on kicking one of their players, but I do not advocate that. I do not ask anyone to kick anyone."
