Smith 'hurt' after Woking release
Neil Smith

Woking have released club captain Neil Smith, following the appointment of Frank Gray as manager.

Smith, 35, stepped up to act as caretaker player-boss after the sacking of Glenn Cockerill, and helped to keep the Cards in the Conference.

However, he then missed out on landing the job full-time.

"I'm in shock. It's really hurt me. I thought I could have been treated a little better," the former Reading man told BBC Southern Counties Radio.

"I'm not saying they should have shown loyalty to me, but I don't feel I have had any praise for what I did to help the club in a sticky situation."
