MK Dons hope to play in their new stadium early in 2007. The Dons, whose new home will be a new �42m, 30,000-capacity stadium, are currently playing in front of 4,000 crowds at the National Hockey Stadium.
Dons boss Danny Wilson told BBC Sport: "We think the stadium might be ready in October but we are going to delay the move until 2007.
"That date will provide a celebration for the town as it coincides with 40 years of Milton Keynes' development."
Wilson added: "It's a new dawn for everybody at the club with our own stadium and our own identity.
"The new stadium will be absolutely fantastic. It's taking shape and it looks brilliant.
"We've cherrypicked the best parts of other new stadiums that have been built. The chairman Pete Winkelman has done an absolutely brilliant job."
The Dons, in their former incarnation as Wimbledon, played their first game in Milton Keynes at the National Hockey Stadium in September 2003.
They had previously played at Crystal Palace's Selhurst Park ground in south London - and changed their name to Milton Keynes Dons in June 2004. The Dons' new stadium is located in the Denbigh area of Milton Keynes.
