 Camara's new deal ends speculation over his future at Wigan |
Henri Camara has signed an improved three-year deal to keep him at Wigan until 2009. The striker's previous deal was due to expire in 2008, but he exercised a clause allowing him to renegotiate if Wigan survived in the Premiership.
Camara, 29, had been linked with a move away from the JJB stadium, with Newcastle and Portsmouth said to be interested in him.
The Senegal striker said: "In my mind I never wanted to leave."
Camara joined Wigan from Wolves in August 2005 for �3m, a club record fee until the Latics signed Emile Heskey this summer from Birmingham for �5m.
The Senegal striker played his part in Wigan's remarkable first season in the Premiership, scoring 12 goals in 30 league appearances as they finished 10th.
During his spell at Molineux he was loaned out to Southampton and Celtic.
