Kirkland spent last season on loan at West Brom |
Wigan have signed Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland on a six-month loan deal, with a view to a permanent move. Kirkland, 25, spent last season on loan at West Brom but after he lost his place because of injury he was unable to dislodge Tomasz Kuszczak.
Liverpool paid Coventry 6m for England Under-21 international Kirkland in August 2001.
Wigan boss Paul Jewell said: "If Chris can stay injury-free then he'll be a great signing for us."
Kirkland has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield - behind Scott Carson, Jerzy Dudek and Jose Reina.
He follows Birmingham striker Emile Heskey and Crystal Palace defender Fitz Hall to the JJB Stadium this summer.
