France defender Pascal Chimbonda is confident he will move to Tottenham from Wigan by the end of next week. Wigan have rejected a 3m bid from Tottenham for the French right-back.
"I think it'll be settled on the rest days - next Friday or Saturday." said World Cup-bound Chimbonda. "I haven't spoken to Spurs, but my agent has."
The 27-year-old defender handed in a transfer request within minutes of Wigan's 4-2 defeat at Arsenal on the final day of the Premiership season.
France coach Raymond Domenech wants all transfers settled before the squad heads to Germany on 8 June.
Chimbonda, who has also been linked with Manchester United, added: "As a footballer you always want to play at the highest level, and moving to Tottenham will help me take the next step forward.
"If I quit Wigan it's to go as far as possible in the game.
"Of course going to Manchester United would be nice, but there is Gary Neville there. He is a legend.
"Of course it is difficult to refuse a club like Manchester United, but only Tottenham has made Wigan an offer."
Wigan signed Chimbonda for a bargain 500,000 from French club Bastia last summer.
Wigan have said they want at least 6m for Chimbonda.
