Henchoz has 71 Swtizerland caps |
Wigan have released defender Stephane Henchoz and midfielder David Thompson. Manager Paul Jewell signed Henchoz, 35, who built a solid defensive partnership with Arjan de Zeeuw, on a one-year contract at the start of the season.
Thompson, 28, joined from Blackburn in the January transfer window on a short-term deal and scored the last goal of Wigan's campaign at Arsenal.
"It was a tough decision, but I've just thought for next season we will try something different," said Jewell.
"Stephane has played a major part in our season, in particular at the start of the season when his experience was crucial.
"He has been an absolute model professional.
"Thommo is a good little player, but he has found it difficult, in particular as he has had a couple of niggly injuries.
"But he is very unlucky because you could see what he's capable of at Arsenal."
Reto Ziegler, who joined the Latics on loan from Spurs in January for the remainder of the season, has returned to White Hart Lane.
