Wigan boss Paul Jewell has dropped his pursuit of Southampton striker Brett Ormerod in favour of Stoke City front man Ade Akinbiyi. The Latics' boss's hopes of signing Ormerod have been hit by Saints striker Kevin Phillips on-going groin problem.
Jewell told Wigan's website: "Harry Redknapp won't let Brett go because Kevin will be out for a little longer.
"We would have liked to have brought him in, but Ade Akinbiyi is among the other targets we have in mind."
