West Ham are hopeful Jack Collison could still play a part this season despite being sidelined for six to seven weeks with a dislocated kneecap.
The 20-year-old Wales international picked up the injury in the recent 1-0 win at Wigan.
He underwent surgery on Tuesday to examine the full extent of the injury and is already on the mend.
Earlier this week, team-mate Valon Behrami was ruled out for six months with a cruciate ligament injury.
Collison, a product of the West Ham youth system, has been one of the team's biggest successes this season.
He has made 16 appearances and scored three goals, as well as establishing himself as a key player for Wales.
