 Sheringham will be 40 in April |
Teddy Sheringham has signed a deal keeping him at West Ham for the 2006-2007 campaign. The former England striker, who turns 40 this April, should now be playing Premiership football at the age of 41.
Sheringham joined West Ham in July 2004, helping them back into the Premiership having been released by Portsmouth after one year there.
Previously he had played for Millwall, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Manchester United and then Spurs again.
Sheringham has made 14 Premiership appearances for the Hammers this season, scoring four top-flight goals.
He recently revealed that he turned down the chance to return to Tottenham.
His former club made a bid to tempt him back to White Hart Lane during the January transfer window.
Hammers boss Alan Pardew told the club's website: "I'm absolutely delighted that we have signed Teddy up for another year.
"It's important for our young players that we have good senior professionals at the club, and Teddy has always set the right example.
"More importantly, we have also secured his playing ability for another season.
"Teddy has shown this season that he is still a top Premiership striker and, given his superb fitness levels and dedication to the game, I have no doubt that he will be an important member of the team next year."
