Di Matteo cool on top-four spot

Roberto di Matteo refused to get carried away despite seeing West Brom move into the top four of the Premier League with a 2-1 win against Fulham.

"We haven't been looking at the table," said the Baggies manager. "It's not important where we stand now it's where we are at the end.

"We will just try to play game by game, to improve and not concede a goal sometimes for a change!

"The players dedicate their time to training and transfer it to the pitch."

The visitors went ahead early on when Scott Carson pushed Zoltan Gera's shot on to the post, only for it to bounce back against the goalkeeper and over the line.

But the Baggies were soon level through Youssouf Mulumbu before Marc-Antoine Fortune's goal turned things around in the 40th minute.

The result means the Baggies have gone seven games unbeaten in all competitions.

For the third match in succession the Baggies conceded the first goal but Di Matteo said: "We are delighted with the win, we had to come one from one down and it takes a lot for a team to do that and we scored two fantastic goals.

"If we win 2-1 I'm not too concerned but of course we don't want to go 1-0 down, but we tend to that in that last few games, we're working on it but we can score goals and create chances.

"I thought the team expressed themselves at a high level, played with good intensity and moved the ball well."

Meanwhile, Fulham boss Mark Hughes was so incensed with referee Kevin Friend that he had to start his interview with BBC Sport's Jonathan Pearce again.

"I'm trying to be polite when I want to blow my top," he quipped.

Hughes rues 'offside' goals

"You can argue about players being in the first and second phase but from our point of view we felt that on both occasions players were in offside positions and therefore the goals shouldn't have been given.

"We were hurt last week by decisions and feel exactly the same this week. It's difficult enough away from home and you just want a level playing field.

"I think we are all aware of the ambiguity of the law and areas that surround it. I just think it gives referees and officials an opportunity to hide behind something with decisions that they get incorrect."
