The Czech has been in excellent form since breaking into the first team and says Phillips has been a key factor.

"When you watch Kevin and his finishing it's unbelievable. His patience in front of goal, the way he takes the ball down and finishes - incredible.

"I'm a bit different and have my own way but I try my best," he told BBC WM.

Bednar has had to wait for his chance in the Albion first-team after being kept on the bench by Ishmael Miller.

But injuries to Miller and Phillips gave the man on loan from Hearts his opportunity.

Bednar responded by scoring six goals in nine games - a run that started with a double strike in the win at Plymouth.

"It had been hard but the team really helped me and gave me two great passes for the goals. That started everything for me. It helped my confidence and I started to believe," Bednar added.

"I believe in the team and trust they will find me in the box with a pass."

Bednar's loan with the Baggies runs out at the end of the season and, although he is not thinking too far ahead, the striker would like to stay at The Hawthorns if possible.

"I don't want to return to Hearts. I want to play here but I'm not thinking too much about it. I will stay at Albion if they want me but we will see."
