Dean Kiely has been signed after Russell Hoult's suspension |
West Bromwich Albion have signed veteran keeper Dean Kiely from Portsmouth on an 18-month deal. The 36-year-old has been on loan at Luton since November.
Republic of Ireland international Kiely helped keep Pompey in the Premiership last term, but lost his place when boss Harry Redknapp signed David James.
Kiely has been signed after Albion keeper Russell Hoult was suspended following newspaper articles about his private life.
Baggies' boss Tony Mowbray said: "We're delighted to have Dean on board.
"He's enjoyed an illustrious career at the top level and brings genuine competition for places.
"His professionalism will only enhance the goalkeeping department."
The move brings Kiely's career full circle - he joined the Baggies as a schoolboy in the early 80s, and spent around two years with the club, progressing to the FA School of Excellence at Lilleshall.
