West Brom boss Bryan Robson has hit back after criticism from departing striker Robert Earnshaw. Earnshaw, who joined Norwich for 3.5m on Tuesday, felt he was not given a chance by Robson.
"I don't want to get into a war of words but since I've been here he started 23 or 24 games and we won two of them," Robson told BBC Sport.
"Rob thought it was just important to score goals but if you're not scoring what else are you contributing?"
Earnshaw was the Baggies top scorer last season and his goals helped keep Robson's side in the Premiership.
But he asked to leave after falling out of favour this season.
Robson initially turned down two transfer requests, but said he knew it was time to sell following their FA Cup exit against Reading.
He added: "I had a word with Rob and said no-one had come in so could he withdraw his transfer request and fight hard for the team?
"When he said he wasn't prepared to do that I knew I had a player who didn't think anything of West Brom, anything of himself or have any respect for his team-mates to play the way he did.
"That's when I knew it was time to sell. I know I'll get criticised by the fans because he was a bit of favourite, but as far as I'm concerned I want players around me who want to play for the club.
"When players leave they nearly always have a pop at the manager or the coach - and Rob has decided to have a pop at me.
"But sometimes players should look at themselves.
"As far as I'm concerned Norwich gave me an acceptable offer and I thought I could improve my squad. So good luck to Rob at Norwich."
