New West Brom manager Bryan Robson has tried to warn off clubs interested in signing Nwankwo Kanu by insisting he would want a "fortune" for him. The striker, 28, has been linked with a move to other Premiership sides or to Spain after reports he is unhappy at the departure of Gary Megson.
But Robson said: "We want Kanu to stick around. He is a quality player.
"Let us just say it will cost a hell of a lot of money for anyone who is interested in him."
Nigerian Kanu was signed from Arsenal in the close season and has impressed with his commitment and work-rate.
He was rewarded with the captaincy by caretaker boss Frank Burrows.
It remains to be seen whether Robson will continue with Kanu as skipper or hands the armband back to either Darren Purse or Darren Moore.
