Fans chief trusts Watford bosses

Watford

Watford Supporters Trust chairman Graham Sterry has backed the club's board to make the right decision regarding any future sale.

It was confirmed last week talks were under way with a potential buyer.

Sterry believes majority shareholder Lord Ashcroft and club directors have the Hornets' best interests at heart.

"I have the confidence that we have the people in the background to make sure the right decisions are made," he told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"Lord Ashcroft has three times come to the rescue of Watford. Whoever he sells his shares to, I believe, will be to the benefit of Watford Football Club."

Ashcroft has lent Watford a total more than £6.55m to help keep the business going but has exchanged those debts for a large share in £10m worth of bonds.

Sterry added that, according to chief executive Julian Winter, the whole board has cast an eye over the potential buyer.

"We do have regular contact with the CEO Julian Winter," he said.

"What he has told me gives me grounds for confidence going forward. The club seems happy with the way things are developing.

"Julian said we are in the early stages, it's as simple as that. But I do understand, whoever it is, has met the board."
