Marvin Sordell deflated by Watford slip

Watford striker Marvin Sordell said their 2-2 draw with Doncaster was hard to take, despite his two-goal haul.

The 19-year-old stepped off the bench on Saturday to turn the game around for the Hornets, who then went on to succumb to a late equaliser.

He told BBC Three Counties Radio: "To drop two points is so disappointing when we were in such a strong position to finish the game.

"It was there for us to win. We see it as two points dropped."

He added: "I'm delighted I scored the goals but at the end of the day, we were 2-1 up and conceded a goal in the last minute."

The Watford youth product found himself on the bench against Rovers after failing to find the net in four league starts this season.

But his introduction after 55 minutes sparked Malky Mackay's side into life, putting them 2-1 ahead through a header from Don Cowie's cross and a right-footed strike from the edge of the area.

"I'm not really used to scoring a lot of headers, but I've been practising a lot in training," Sordell explained

"The second I gathered from Danny's hard work to go and close down the keeper, and when it came to me I just turned and hit it. It was instinct."

Watford will hope to recover from George Friend's late equaliser for Doncaster when they travel to Bristol City on Tuesday.
