Lampard keeping it in the family

Watford coach Frank Lampard Senior
Frank Lampard Senior twice lifted the FA Cup with West Ham.

Watford football consultant Frank Lampard Snr has said the FA Cup clash between his club and Chelsea is a big game for his family.

The tie pits Lampard against his son, Frank Jnr, just two months after joining the Hornets.

On what is bound to be an emotional occasion, he told BBC Three Counties Radio "I lost my wife eight or nine months ago.

"For me and Frank to be in opposition will be a great thing."

He added: "My daughters are going to come to the game as well so it's a big occasion for our family. I can't lose on the day really because if Watford win I'm happy, if Chelsea go through then Frank is still in the Cup.

"Firstly, though, I want Watford to beat Chelsea."

The dream was nearly shattered two weeks ago when Frank Jnr was shown a straight red card whilst playing for Chelsea against Liverpool.

On appeal though the card was rescinded, enabling the England player to be available to take his place in the Chelsea midfield.

They are up against top class players and all our boys will raise their game I'm sure

Frank Snr said: "I would have been unhappy if he missed the game because it is such a big game for our family."

On Watford's chances he said: "The Cup always springs up a few surprises, and there will be more surprises this weekend.

"That is why the FA Cup is so good. For our lads it is a different thing to what they are used to week in week out. They are up against top class players and all our boys will raise their game I'm sure.

"It's a terrific draw for Watford. It's a big occasion and a full house; it's a great occasion for the supporters, they haven't had a lot to shout about this season."
