Jackson spent six years with Wigan |
Watford have signed Wigan captain Matt Jackson after he rejected a one-year contract at the JJB Stadium. The 35-year-old joined Wigan on a free transfer from Norwich in 2001 and made 191 appearances, 84 as captain.
Hornets boss Adie Boothroyd said he had signed him as cover for Jay DeMerit, who is expected to be on international duty for the USA next season.
"Signing Matt gives us a player with calmness and an ability to manage the game," Boothroyd told the club website.
Jackson joined Wigan when they were in the old Division Two and was part of their rise to the Premiership.

"The club will always have a special place in my heart for the wonderful journey we have undertaken together," he told the Wigan website.
"I believe the club can bring in new faces under manager Chris Hutchings next season who can push it on to a new level next season."
Hutchings said: "He is one of the finest professionals I have worked with in terms of attitude and commitment.
"A move elsewhere may provide him with more opportunities than I could guarantee."
