Walsall's new management pairing are finding their feet well, according to assistant boss Martin O'Connor.
The former Saddlers midfielder is now number two to ex-Wigan and Bradford manager Chris Hutchings, and feels it is a natural partnership.
"We bounce ideas off each other - he's a very calming influence, where I'm a bit more wearing my heart on my sleeve," O'Connor, 41, told BBC WM.
"He calms me down, and I get the lads going - hopefully it's working well."
Walsall have taken eight points from their five games under Hutchings and O'Connor, easing their worries about dropping into a relegation dogfight.
The Saddlers currently lie 12th in the League One table, 12 points below the play-off places, and the same amount above the drop-zone.
The players have been given greater freedom to express themselves, with the new management team committed to playing passing football.
"Throughout his career Chris has always done that, and I'm not one for the long-ball route," O'Connor noted.
"We're both footballing people. We've got the players here to play football, so why not play it?"
Walsall can close the gap on the top six on Saturday when they visit Sixfields to take on Northampton Town.
