Walsall's young goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin was thrust into the limelight for the FA Cup tie with Merthyr Tydfil. The 18 year-old put in a solid display that defied his lack of first team experience and he enjoyed the exposure.
"Knowing that my family would be watching me and cheering me on gave the game an extra edge for me.
"Before I went on Mick was warming me up and he said that if I didn't enjoy myself he was going to come on and chin me," he told the club website.
