Kaboul rejoined Spurs from Portsmouth in January 2010

Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul has been told he requires surgery on his injured knee and is expected to be sidelined for six weeks.

The 25-year-old Frenchman picked up the injury last week and is the latest in a series of defensive problems for Spurs.

Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate are still not fit and Michael Dawson faces a three-match ban after being sent off in the FA Cup defeat at Fulham.

"We are down to two central defenders," said Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

There is also concern over William Gallas, who came on as substitute at Fulham but is far from fully fit.

"He has a hip injury," Redknapp revealed. "I didn't want to play him against Fulham but he had to be on the bench because we didn't have any cover.

"He had to come on when we went down to 10 men. Otherwise I only have Sebastien Bassong if Dawson is going to be suspended for three games."

Bongani Khumalo, a £1.5m signing from South African side Supersport, and versatile full-back Vedran Corluka may now be forced into action over the next few weeks.

"We have one spare defender on our books in Corluka. There is no-one else in the back four," added Redknapp.
