Huddlestone faces a race against time to recover from surgery

Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone is set to undergo knee surgery and may miss England Under-21s' European Championship campaign this summer.

Huddlestone, 22, is understood to have been carrying the slight problem through the last few months.

He has already been ruled out of Spurs' last Premier League match of the season against Liverpool on Sunday.

Huddlestone starred in England's qualification for the tournament which takes place in Sweden from 15 June.

Meanwhile, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is hopeful the club can secure a place in Europe for next season.

The Londoners need to win against Liverpool and hope Fulham lose at home to Everton to qualify for the Europa League.

Redknapp, who guided Spurs away from relegation danger after taking over the reins at the club in October, admits the task looks difficult but is refusing to give up hope.

"Fulham look nailed on. But it is possible," he said.
