Redknapp determined to keep King

Ledley King and Harry Redknapp
Redknapp wants King to have a long-term future at Tottenham

Harry Redknapp insists Ledley King is worth keeping even if the defender plays in only 50% of Tottenham's games.

The 28-year-old has been plagued by knee trouble, which prevents him from playing or training regularly.

King's contract expires in the summer but Spurs manager Redknapp said: "If you get 20 games out of Ledley he's worth a fortune - he's that good.

"As long as he's capable of playing games and as long as I'm here, I want Ledley King here for sure."

And Redknapp has indicated that he would like King to be involved with the coaching set-up at White Hart Lane when he eventually stops playing.

"He deserves that, he means so much to the club," said Redknapp.

"He came here as a schoolboy and is part of this club, and you'd like to think he'll be part of this club for many years to come - as a player and then who knows from there.

"He deserves to be looked after and I'm sure the chairman will look after him and he is part of everything we do."

Redknapp has already given part-time coaching jobs to former Tottenham players Les Ferdinand and Tim Sherwood since he took over as Spurs boss last year.
