Mabbutt believes Harry Redknapp's January signings will be crucial

Former Tottenham captain Gary Mabbutt believes the club's January signings will be crucial in their battle to avoid relegation.

Boss Harry Redknapp brought Robbie Keane, Jermain Defoe and Pascal Chimbonda back to White Hart Lane.

Mabbutt, 47, told BBC London 94.9: "We have brought back three players, that's a big positive.

"[They] can walk straight back into the training ground and the dressing room as if they've hardly left."

All three had left the club in the past year when Juande Ramos was manager.

But Mabbutt, who spent 16 years at Spurs as a player, believes the return of the trio is a major positive.

"Players being brought in from different cultures have to adapt to this country, have to adapt to the style of play of the team they are going to, have to adapt to the Premier League. All those things can be a negative.

"The league table doesn't lie, you can't have people saying we are too good to go down, that's a ridiculous thing to say because it has happened to numerous teams in the past.

"What we do know is the quality of players that we have and what we can get from those players.

"We know that we have the quality in the side and the attributes to get us well away from the relegation zone.

"Harry is great man manager, the players that he has brought back will add a lot to the side."
