Fred no-show for Tottenham talks

Tottenham's interest in signing Lyon striker Fred is now in the balance after the player failed to turn up for a meeting with manager Harry Redknapp.

Fred, 25, was reportedly seen at Spurs' 3-1 win over Stoke on Tuesday but did not meet Redknapp beforehand.

"He was supposed to come today but didn't turn up so I wouldn't bet on him coming tomorrow," said Redknapp.

"I don't know what happened. He's out of contract in the summer so I think Lyon are asking for a small fee."

Tottenham had stepped up their interest in the Lyon forward after failing to secure Kenwyne Jones from Sunderland, who opted instead to sign a new contract with the Black Cats.

Redknapp is also due to make a decision on whether to take Stephen Appiah as a free agent following a reserve game against Reading on Wednesday.

The Ghanaian midfielder has been training with Tottenham with a view to earning a permanent move.

The 28-year-old has been without a club since ending his deal with Turkish side Fenerbahce in August.
