Bale was a big-money summer signing for Spurs last season |
Gareth Bale will miss the rest of Tottenham's Premier League campaign with a foot injury, sporting director Damian Comolli has confirmed. The Wales international has been sidelined since spraining a ligament against Birmingham in December.
"Although the surgeon was happy with the results of the X-rays he does not anticipate Gareth playing any further part this season," said Comolli.
"We are all disappointed, but his long-term fitness is our priority."
Spurs had hoped the 18-year-old would be available towards the end of the season, but the surgeon delivered his prognosis after removing the cast on Monday.

Bale - who joined Spurs last summer from Southampton in a deal expected to be worth 10m - has been impressive in his 12 appearances on the left side of defence and midfield this season.
His absence is a setback for manager Juande Ramos, although the Spaniard has bolstered his defence with the 2m signing of Brazilian left-back Gilberto from Hertha Berlin.
Ramos was forced to use right-back Pascal Chimbonda on the left side of defence in Tottenham's 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Saturday.
